Über diese Stufe
Yunnan stalactitic calcite at 18 g; a miniature with warm colour.
Calcium carbonate in its rhombohedral form, calcite is soft (Mohs 3) and takes a bright vitreous to pearly lustre on fresh faces.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
The piece is miniature in size, 4.1 × 2.7 × 2.1 cm (1.61 × 1.06 × 0.83 in) and 18 g (0.6 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
