Über diese Stufe
Wuzhou, Guangxi, rhodochrosite-fluorite-quartz at 57 g; a small cabinet piece with a gentle colour pairing.
Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate, and its raspberry-to-rose colour is entirely natural; Chinese material from Guangxi and Inner Mongolia has become a collector favourite.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Guangxi's Daoping and Yangshuo districts produce the green pyromorphite, plumbogummite and calcite that made the province famous among collectors.
Dimensions place it in the small cabinet range, 6 × 5.8 × 2.2 cm (2.36 × 2.28 × 0.87 in) and 57 g (2.0 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
