Über diese Stufe
Ein einziger Kristall trägt hier alles: ein blassrosa Calcit in der Farbe einer Muschelinnenseite, ohne Matrix und ohne Begleitminerale, die das Interesse teilen würden. Die Form ist komplex – ein Dutzend Flächen, die in flachen Winkeln zusammentreffen, einige spiegelblank, andere von inneren Wachstumsebenen verschleiert, die tief im Stein als feine parallele Streifen erscheinen.
Calcit (CaCO3) ist trigonal und erreicht nur Mohs 3, mit vollkommener rhomboedrischer Spaltbarkeit nach drei Richtungen – ein Stoß auf eine Kante nimmt eine Schuppe mit und hinterlässt keine bloße Kerbe. Aus Hubei kommen seit Jahren rosafarbene Calcite; der Farbton stammt von Manganspuren im Gitter, und Mangan ist auch der Grund, weshalb viele Calcite auf Ultraviolett ansprechen, wobei die Stärke von Kristall zu Kristall schwankt. Halten Sie eine gerade Kante dahinter, verrät das doppelte Bild die berühmt starke Doppelbrechung des Calcits.
3,8 × 2,5 × 2,5 cm und 45 g, in grauweiße Klebeknete auf den hier gezeigten klaren Acrylständer gebettet. Fotografiert wurde ausschließlich dieser eine Kristall.
