Über diese Stufe
Guizhou purple fluorite with quartz at 9.5 cm and 325 g; a cabinet plate. A tall plate of white, sugary quartz with small purple fluorite cubes clustered across its top and scattered down the face.
Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Guizhou's Qinglong antimony-fluorite district is the classic source for creedite sprays and continues to produce zoned fluorite and calcite.
The piece is cabinet in size, 9.5 × 8.5 × 3 cm (3.74 × 3.35 × 1.18 in) and 325 g (11.5 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
