Über diese Stufe
Ein Quarzkristall, aufrecht und allein auf einer Platte aus ockerfarbenem Ton, leistet bei diesem Stück aus Lanwen die ganze Arbeit. Die Endfläche ist hell und scharf facettiert, glasklar dort, wo das Licht hindurchgeht; darunter dunkelt das Prisma stetig nach, füllt sich mit dunklen Einschlusswolken und rostigen Filmen, und an der Stelle, an der der Kristall in die Kluft hineinwuchs, haftet noch ein Belag desselben gelben Tons.
Quarz ist trigonal und hat Mohshärte 7 – hart genug, um den Zusammenbruch alles Umgebenden zu überdauern. Genau deshalb kommen Kristalle aus tongefüllten Hohlräumen wie diesem unversehrt heraus, während das Wirtsgestein zu Schlamm zerfällt. Die dunklen inneren Schleier sind mineralische Substanz, die während des Wachstums eingefangen wurde – ein Protokoll dessen, was damals in der Lösung schwebte. Die weiche Matrix ist die empfindliche Hälfte dieses Stücks: trocken halten und nicht schrubben.
