Über diese Stufe
Auf einer langen ockerfarbenen Matrixplatte sitzen zwei strohgoldene Calcit-Kristalle, beide zu jener Keilform abgeflacht, die Sammler als Schmetterlingszwilling kennen. Der untere und größere ist am Rand glasklar und im Kern von rostigen Eisenverfärbungen getrübt; der obere ist kleiner, sauberer und andersherum geneigt, sodass sich das Paar über die Platte hinweg die Waage hält.
Eine solche Verzwillingung entsteht, wenn zwei Calcit-Individuen eine Gitterebene teilen und spiegelbildlich weiterwachsen, woraus sich der flache, flügelartige Umriss ergibt. Hunans karbonatgebundene Erzkörper sind eher für ihre Sulfide bekannt, und eine Matrixplatte, die mit unversehrtem Calcit aus dem Berg kommt, sollte man behalten: Bei Mohshärte 3 spaltet ein Schlag aus der falschen Richtung einen Kristall glatt in zwei Teile.
Die Platte misst 15,7 × 7,1 × 3,3 cm und wiegt 240 g; ihre flache Rückseite erlaubt es, sie aufrecht an ein Regalbrett zu lehnen. Ein Ständer ist nicht enthalten, und die Fotos dokumentieren genau diese Platte und keine andere.
