Über diese Stufe
Ein halbes Dutzend schlanker Quarzprismen fächert von einer dunkel verkrusteten Basis auf, milchweiß entlang der Schäfte und zu den Spitzen hin glasklar. Ihre Flanken sind von gestapelten Wachstumsstufen gerippt, jede Lage gegenüber der darunterliegenden ein wenig verdreht – daher der Beiname Schraubenquarz für diesen Habitus aus der Inneren Mongolei. Olivschwarze Pünktchen sprenkeln die Prismen und verdichten sich dort zu einer dunklen Kruste, wo sie auf die Matrix treffen.
Quarz ist Siliciumdioxid, SiO2, Mohshärte 7 – hart genug, dass so dünne Kristalle das Hantieren weit besser überstehen, als sie aussehen. Die Drehung ist eine Täuschung der Stapelung: Aufeinanderfolgende Wachstumslagen wurden minimal gedreht angelegt, sodass das Prisma nach oben zu schrauben scheint, ohne dass sich das Gitter selbst je verbiegt. Büschel, die alle Spitzen unversehrt behalten, sind die, auf die man warten sollte.
Die Gruppe misst 5,1 × 3,6 × 3,6 cm und wiegt 31 g. Sie kommt auf dem abgebildeten klaren Acrylwürfel, der die Kristalle vom Regalboden abhebt. Gezeigt wird die Stufe, die auch geliefert wird.
