Über diese Stufe
Ein Sinterhalm, dick gewachsen und danach besetzt: Der Kern dieses Stücks aus Yunnan ist eine stalaktitische Calcit-Säule, und jede ihrer Oberflächen ist von kurzen, spitz zulaufenden bernsteinorangen Kristallen ummantelt. Zwischen den größeren sitzen rostige Mikro-Büschel desselben Minerals, fein wie Flechten, und der Fuß des Kegels bricht dort in blass gelbgrünen Calcit auf, wo die warme Eisenfärbung ausläuft.
Stalaktitischer Calcit beginnt als karbonatgesättigtes Wasser, das in einen Hohlraum tropft und Lage für Lage eine hohle Röhre aufbaut; erst später wächst eine zweite Kristallgeneration nach außen über diese Röhre – daher das borstige, kegelförmige Profil. Calcit ist CaCO3, Mohshärte 3 mit vollkommener rhomboedrischer Spaltbarkeit, und er löst sich schon in schwacher Säure: nur trocken abstauben, niemals Essig.
Das Stück steht 5,2 cm hoch auf einer Grundfläche von 4,1 × 2,9 cm und wiegt 126 g, aufrecht auf einem klaren Acrylsockel mit weißer Knetmasse gezeigt. Was die Kamera festgehalten hat, wird ankommen.
