Über diese Stufe
Eine diagonale Naht blutroter Sechsecke zieht über diesen kleinen Keil marokkanischen Sandsteins; jeder Vanadinit-Kristall ist ein gedrungenes sechsseitiges Täfelchen von zwei bis fünf Millimetern Breite mit spiegelblanker Basisfläche. Wo die Kristalle ausdünnen, übernimmt das Gestein: staubig rosafarbener Sandstein, gesprenkelt mit schwarzen Manganoxid-Dendriten, und unter dem dichtesten Bewuchs ein rostiges Band aus Eisenverfärbung.
Vanadinit ist Blei-Chlorovanadat, Pb5(VO4)3Cl, und bildet sich nur dort, wo eine Bleilagerstätte oberflächennah langsam oxidiert ist; das Vanadium stammt in der Regel aus dem umgebenden Nebengestein. Mibladen bei Midelt im Mittleren Atlas ist die klassische Adresse dafür. Die Kristalle sind mit etwa 3 auf der Mohsskala weich und an den Kanten spröde – drehen Sie das Stück lieber unter einer Lampe, als es herumzureichen.
Die Platte misst 3,3 × 3,3 × 3,3 cm und wiegt 25 g. Geliefert wird sie montiert auf dem abgebildeten klaren Acrylblock, gehalten von einem Polster grüner Museumsknete, das sich rückstandsfrei ablösen lässt. Die Aufnahmen zeigen kein Musterstück, sondern genau dieses Exemplar.
