Über diese Stufe
Nichts an diesem Stück aus Xianghualing ist als glatter Würfel gewachsen. Jede Fluoritfläche steigt in feinen Simsen und Terrassen an, sodass sich das Licht stufenweise darüber bricht; das Innere ist blaugrün, während die Oberseiten vieler Kristalle von einem Belag dunkler Mikrokristalle silbergrau bereift sind. Am rechten Ende weicht der Fluorit einer cremefarbenen, zuckrigen Quarzkruste, die die Platte abschließt.
Ein solches Stufenwachstum hält Unterbrechungen fest: Jeder Sims markiert eine Pause im Nachschub fluorreicher Lösung, nach der der Kristall etwas innerhalb seiner alten Kante wieder ansetzt. Xianghualing im Süden Hunans ist ein polymetallisches Zinnsystem, und seine Fluorite kommen häufig genau mit diesem dunklen, funkelnden Überwuchs ans Licht. Fluorit ist CaF2, Mohshärte 4, mit vollkommener oktaedrischer Spaltbarkeit – die Ecken sind die empfindliche Stelle, heben Sie das Stück daher an der Matrix an.
Ein gewichtiges Exemplar mit 11,6 × 8,1 × 5,3 cm und 485 g, das die Handfläche ausfüllt, wie die Fotos zeigen; diese Aufnahmen entstanden von genau diesem Stück und nicht von einem Stellvertreter.
