Über diese Stufe
Stufe, Versatz, Stufe: Transparente Fluorit-Würfel klettern über Eck durch diese Gruppe aus Peking, an den Rändern strohblass und dort, wo zwei oder drei einander überlagern, zu warmem Honig vertieft; jede Fläche ist hell genug, um das Licht zu spiegeln, und klar genug, um den dahinterliegenden Würfel zu zeigen. Entlang mehrerer innerer Wachstumsebenen sind feine mineralische Schleier und rostige Häutchen eingeschlossen, und die ganze Gruppe sitzt auf einer rauen eisenbraunen Matrix, die mit kleineren Kristallen desselben Goldtons besetzt ist.
Glasrein ist hier nichts: In den Kernen mehrerer Würfel stehen blasse Wachstumswolken, und etliche Kanten sind gestuft oder angeschlagen, wo Kristalle ineinander gewachsen sind. Fluorit ist CaF2, kubisch, Mohs 4, und wegen der vollkommenen oktaedrischen Spaltbarkeit löst ein Stoß auf eine Ecke einen sauberen dreieckigen Span statt einer Absplitterung. Manche Fluorite fluoreszieren unter UV, andere nicht; hier lohnt sich das Prüfen mehr als das Annehmen.
