Fotografato in una stanza buia sotto luce ultravioletta, questo uovo di geode brasiliano vira al corallo. La cavità aperta è rivestita da parete a parete di piccoli cristalli tozzi di calcite, e ognuno di essi arde di un rosa salmone saturo, i più accesi divampando fino a sfiorare il bianco. Attorno all'apertura il guscio lucidato risponde con un bianco-azzurro freddo e vetroso: i due colori si incontrano lungo un bordo netto che segue il profilo dell'orlo.
La calcite è tra i minerali fluorescenti più affidabili che un collezionista possa possedere. Tracce di manganese nel sito del calcio assorbono l'ultravioletto e lo riemettono nella banda dall'arancione al rosso: da lì nasce questo corallo. Si tratta di emissione, non di riflessione — la pietra produce il colore invece di rimandarlo indietro — e richiede una lampada a onde corte o lunghe in un ambiente oscurato.
Questo esemplare è stato lavorato: il nodulo è stato sagomato e lucidato a forma di uovo lasciando un lato aperto sulla cavità naturale, con il rivestimento cristallino intatto. Misura 22,9 cm sull'asse maggiore, 12,7 × 17,8 cm di larghezza, ed è registrato a 13 kg. L'immagine ai raggi ultravioletti è stata scattata proprio a questo uovo.
