La base di questo esemplare indiano è una crosta di pirite ottonata le cui superfici hanno assunto una patina cangiante da chiazza d'olio, con l'oro che sfuma nel verde e nel bronzo a seconda dell'angolazione con cui lo tiene. Da quel letto crescono cristalli di quarzo incolore: due punte lunghe e ben formate protese verso l'alto e all'indietro, una cupola vetrosa e bassa tra le due, e gruppi di aghi più sottili che si aprono a ventaglio dai fianchi.
L'arcobaleno sulla pirite (FeS2) non è stato applicato da nessuno. È una pellicola di ossidazione estremamente sottile sulle facce dei cristalli, che scompone la luce bianca più o meno come fa una bolla di sapone. Quella pellicola è la parte fragile dell'esemplare: strofinarlo, lucidarlo o pulirlo a umido la porterebbe via all'istante. Mantenga il pezzo asciutto e usi soltanto un pennello morbido. Il quarzo, con i suoi 7 di Mohs, non chiede nulla.
Misura 6,9 × 4,9 × 3,4 cm e pesa 105 g, presentato sul supporto di acrilico trasparente illustrato. Tutte le fotografie mostrano questo esatto pezzo, non un campione rappresentativo.
