Una cresta di cubi di fluorite lilla percorre il bordo superiore e quello destro di questa placca: ogni cristallo custodisce un nucleo viola più scuro, sospeso dentro un vetro esterno quasi incolore. I fantasmi sono quadrati e nitidamente disegnati, la testimonianza del cristallo a una dimensione precedente. Sotto di essi la matrice è tappezzata di scaglie di muscovite color cuoio — migliaia di piccoli libretti che restituiscono un luccichio spento, color champagne.
I fantasmi nascono quando la crescita si interrompe. Una pellicola di impurezze si deposita sulle facce del cristallo, oppure cambia la chimica del fluido; quando la fluorite riprende, cresce dritta al di sopra e sigilla in posizione il vecchio contorno. L’Hunan fornisce in quantità questa associazione di lavanda pallido su mica, anche se una zonatura a fantasma leggibile come questa è meno consueta. La fluorite ha durezza 4 Mohs e si sfalda perfettamente secondo quattro direzioni.
La placca misura 8,6 × 2,0 × 5,6 cm e pesa 210 g, abbastanza sottile da appoggiarsi contro il fondo di una mensola o restare distesa in un cassetto, e viene fornita senza base. Sta guardando le fotografie di questa stessa placca.
