Cappucci arancio ruggine posano su centinaia di piccole punte di quarzo lungo questa placca del Jiangxi, come se i cristalli fossero stati immersi di punta nel ferro. La colorazione è a chiazze e irregolare (alcune terminazioni sono interamente tinte, altre portano solo una lentiggine) e mette in risalto i prismi vitrei e chiari che stanno in mezzo. Cristalli metallici di solfuro color ottone e matrice grigio acciaio affiorano ovunque il quarzo si diradi.
Soluzioni ricche di ferro passate nella cavità dopo la cristallizzazione del quarzo hanno lasciato questa pellicola rossa, talvolta in superficie, talvolta intrappolata appena al di sotto. Il quarzo è SiO2, 7 Mohs e indifferente alla manipolazione, il che rende una drusa come questa uno dei pezzi da esposizione più tolleranti. Il punto debole sono i solfuri più teneri negli interstizi: solo spolveratura a secco, niente di acido.
