About this specimen
Carved and polished into the classic double-bulb gourd shape, this piece of Brazilian quartz keeps all its colour in the lower bulb: red and yellow inclusion clouds of red fire quartz, or hong jiaohua, swirl through the base like flames, and rainbows flare across them when you look from below. The upper bulb and curling stem are water-clear, which makes the fiery base stand out even more.
It is smooth and glossy all over. In Chinese tradition the gourd is regarded as a symbol of blessings and prosperity, and this one makes a striking desk piece or gift. Weight 253.5 g / 8.9 oz.
