Guardi oltre la superficie e il cristallo si apre. L’esterno di questo gruppo di Yaogangxian è smerigliato e cosparso di verde oliva, una fine patina micacea aggrappata alle facce dei cubi; sotto, nuclei viola intenso restano sospesi in fluorite quasi incolore, con i contorni quadrati paralleli agli spigoli esterni: sono fantasmi, la forma che il cristallo aveva in una fase precedente della sua vita. Gradini di crescita attraversano il cubo maggiore, e una cavità in basso a sinistra custodisce lame bianco crema e qualche ago sottile.
I fantasmi si formano quando la crescita si arresta quanto basta perché una pellicola di un altro minerale, o un cambiamento nella chimica in tracce, venga sigillata e poi sepolta dalla fluorite successiva. Nulla di tutto questo è aggiunto in un secondo momento: sono la registrazione di un’interruzione. La fluorite ha durezza 4 Mohs e sfaldatura ottaedrica perfetta, quindi si tratta di un pezzo da vetrina più che da mano: lo sostenga da sotto.
4,8 × 3,8 × 3,0 cm, 65 g, in piedi sul cubo di acrilico trasparente che compare nelle immagini. L’esemplare fotografato e quello spedito sono lo stesso e identico pezzo.
