これは、変成片岩のマトリックス全体に、鋭く鮮やかな深紅色のアルマンディン・ざくろ石の結晶が散在している、保存状態の極めて良好な標本です。ざくろ石の結晶は典型的な十二面体の結晶形を呈しており、面がくっきりと現れ、光沢が高く、結晶の完全性も極めて優れています。 母岩は、地域変成環境に特徴的な、細粒の雲母質片岩です。表面には多数のざくろ石結晶が埋め込まれ、露出しており、完全に先端まで形成されたものもあれば、母岩に部分的に埋もれているものもあり、立体的な質感と結晶構造の明瞭さを際立たせています。
