Yunxiao, Fujian, smoky quartz with garnet at 23 g; a miniature with a clean focal crystal.
The smoky colour is natural and usually deepens toward the terminations while the prism bases stay clearer.
Chinese garnet localities in Fujian and Inner Mongolia produce crisp, lustrous dodecahedra on feldspar and quartz. Feldspar forms the blocky, pale crystals that act as a stage for the more colourful minerals in a pegmatite pocket.
Fujian's fluorite-quartz veins have supplied collectors for two decades; the province is the source of most of the green and purple Chinese fluorite on the market.
By size it is miniature, 4.6 × 2.2 × 2.1 cm (1.81 × 0.87 × 0.83 in) and 23 g (0.8 oz). Condition is otherwise as photographed.
