この標本について
Madagascar quartz with hematite at 7.5 cm and 377 g; a small cabinet piece. A cluster of quartz crystals with red-brown hematite grown free over their tips, as the supplier notes, on a pale matrix.
Rock crystal is judged on termination quality, clarity and how the crystals sit together, and the Chinese localities have raised the bar on all three.
Hematite is iron oxide; in crystals it is black with a metallic lustre and a tell-tale red streak.
Madagascar's pegmatites and sedimentary basins produce quartz, celestine, fluorite and garnet in quantity.
The piece is small cabinet in size, 7.5 × 5.3 × 7 cm (2.95 × 2.09 × 2.76 in) and 377 g (13.3 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
