Jiangxi red hematoid quartz with dolomite at 15 × 8 × 18.5 cm and 1175 g including the stand; a large cabinet display piece. A broad, thin fan of quartz points coated in a red-orange iron skin over white dolomite, mounted on a carved wooden stand.
The red comes from included hematite, and the effect is strongest where the crystals are thinnest.
Dolomite forms curved, saddle-shaped rhombs with a pearly lustre and is the usual companion of calcite and fluorite in Chinese carbonate deposits.
Jiangxi's tungsten mines, Xihuashan and Piaotang among them, are the classic source of wolframite, scheelite, baryte, fluorite and calcite specimens.
Dimensions place it in the large cabinet range, 15 × 8 × 18.5 cm (5.91 × 3.15 × 7.28 in) and 1175 g (41.4 oz). The specimen is otherwise sold in the condition shown.
Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
