Yunnan phosphorescent red aragonite with selenite at 24 g; a miniature with strong colour. Gypsum: keep dry.
Aragonite grows as radiating or stacked crystals, a habit that gives the species its sculptural, coral-like look.
Gypsum (selenite) is hydrated calcium sulfate, very soft and prone to bladed or swallowtail-twinned crystals with a pearly lustre.
Yunnan's copper and lead-zinc districts produce the azurite, malachite, pyromorphite, hemimorphite and blue aragonite that define Chinese secondary minerals.
By size it is miniature, 4 × 3.8 × 2 cm (1.57 × 1.50 × 0.79 in) and 24 g (0.8 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.
Water-sensitive: keep dry and never wash. Carbonate: never clean with acid or vinegar.
Each specimen is individually photographed and catalogued before it is listed.
