포도상 옥수의 라일락색 능선 두 줄이 오트밀빛 회색의 더 옅은 구슬이 낮게 깔린 층에서 솟아오르며, 더 높은 쪽은 바람에 휜 첨탑처럼 뒤로 기울어 있습니다. 모든 표면은 수천 개의 작은 구슬로 이루어져 있는데, 보라색이 가장 짙은 곳은 광택이 나고 색이 회색으로 옅어지는 곳은 무광입니다. 두 능선 사이의 안장 부분에는 결정질 물질로 이루어진 가느다란 흰색 줄이 지나갑니다.
포도 마노는 어떤 연마 결정도 흉내 낼 수 없는 형태의 옥수입니다. 술라웨시 화산암 속 기공 안에서 규산이 미세한 섬유로 침전하며 수많은 별개의 핵에서 방사상으로 뻗어 나간 결과입니다. 구슬 하나하나가 그 자체로 방사상 로제트이고 가장 강한 색은 바깥 껍질에 자리하기 때문에, 빛이 움직일 때마다 보라색이 달라집니다. 모스 경도 6.5~7로 규산은 단단하지만 구슬들이 가는 목 위에 얹혀 있으므로, 천이 아니라 부드러운 솔로 먼지를 털어 주십시오.
크기는 7.1 × 4.6 × 3.8 cm이고 무게는 55 g으로, 사진처럼 오므린 손바닥에 놓일 만큼 작습니다. 받침대는 함께 제공되지 않습니다. 사진은 바로 이 표본을 촬영한 것입니다.
