Over dit exemplaar
Gletsjerbleek, met slechts een zweem violet in de diepere schaduwen, is deze groep uit Shangbao opgebouwd uit kubussen die in evenwijdige rijen groeiden: elke rand is fijn getrapt, zodat de omtrek in kleine terrassen breekt waar het ene kristal het volgende raakt. Licht legt binnenin een verrassende afstand af voordat het dooft, en een vage geelbruine ijzeraanslag zet zich af in de holtes, wat het blauw alleen maar koeler doet lezen.
De Shangbao-mijn in Hunan is de bron van het blauwe en blauwgroene fluoriet waar verzamelaars al jaren achteraan zitten, doorgaans als kubussen of kubo-octaëders met precies dit soort getrapte, geëtste randen. Bleek materiaal als dit komt het best tot zijn recht onder een sterke gerichte lamp, die de kleur uit het binnenste naar buiten duwt. Fluoriet is Mohs 4, splijt octaëdrisch en houdt niet van plotselinge temperatuurwisselingen; houd het dus weg van radiatoren en uit ultrasone reinigers.
De groep meet 8,6 × 5,1 × 5,3 cm en weegt 330 g, en wordt zonder voet geleverd. De foto's zijn van deze groep gemaakt en van geen andere.
