Over dit exemplaar
Knobbels krijtwit gips puilen uit en overlappen elkaar over deze korst uit Guizhou, en overal waar het witte vlies dunner wordt of openbreekt, komt daaronder een toffeebruine korrelige laag tevoorschijn. De textuur lijkt meer op een samengebalde bloemkoolkop dan op iets herkenbaar kristallijns: rond, mat, licht suikerachtig, met diepe plooien tussen de lobben.
Gips, CaSO4·2H2O, is Mohs 2: een vingernagel tekent het en warm water breekt het langzaam af. Popcornhabitussen als deze ontstaan waar het mineraal snel neerslaat uit dunne vloeistoffilms in plaats van vrije kristallen op te bouwen, dus wat u vasthoudt is een korst van talloze minuscule korrels en niet een handvol grote bladen. Houd het droog en stof het af met lucht in plaats van met een doek.
Het stuk meet 5,0 × 4,7 × 3,2 cm en weegt 55 g, met grijslila kit gezet op een blokje helder acryl. Het gefotografeerde specimen is het specimen dat u ontvangt, blokje inbegrepen.
