Eén kristal, en het heeft geen gezelschap nodig: deze mintgroene fluoriet is één glazig blok van net geen vier centimeter breed, waarvan de kubusvlakken in brede vlakke trappen omhoog klimmen naar een afgeschuinde bovenribbe. Het groen is koel en waterig in plaats van grasachtig, aan de dunne randen bleek genoeg om er recht doorheen te kijken, en het verdicht zich tot rokerig blauwgroen waar een berijpte inwendige zone het midden van de steen kruist.
Die trappen zijn groei in slow motion. Fluoriet zet laag na laag materiaal af over een vlak, en als de aanvoer opdroogt blijven de lagen halverwege steken, wat de getrapte randen en inspringende hoeken oplevert die hier zichtbaar zijn. Yaogangxian in het zuiden van Hunan is een wolfraammijn, en zijn fluorieten komen doorgaans met precies deze koele toon en ongewoon vlakke, spiegelheldere vlakken. Hardheid 4 (Mohs) en splijtbaar in vier richtingen – een gevallen fluoriet schilfert zelden, hij splijt.
Het kristal meet 3,8 × 3,6 × 2,8 cm en weegt 45 g, gezet op de doorzichtige acrylstaaf die op de foto's zichtbaar is. Alles wat te zien is, is van dit kristal gefotografeerd, hoek voor hoek.
