Opengelegd en naar de kamer gekeerd toont deze geode een dikke melkwitte schil om een holte vol kleine, rijpwitte kwartspunten. De druse kaatst honderd kleine flitsen terug, het felst door het midden waar de kristallen het hoogst staan, en de buitenwand behoudt de gladde, gebande huid van het chalcedoon dat de holte als eerste bekleedde.
Geodes groeien naar binnen toe. Een holte in het moedergesteente – een gasbel, of een knol die is opgelost – vult zich langzaam met silicahoudend water, dat eerst een gebande chalcedoonhuid afzet voordat kwarts naar het midden toe begint te kristalliseren. De groei stopt zodra de ruimte of de aanvoer op is, en juist daarom zijn de punten hier kort en stomp in plaats van lang en speervormig. Kwarts heeft hardheid 7 en vraagt niet meer dan af en toe afstoffen.
De geode alleen meet 9,4 × 8,4 × 6,9 cm en weegt 385 g; de getoonde goudkleurige metalen houder is inbegrepen en de geode tilt er zo uit. Beide onderdelen van dit aanbod – steen en standaard – zijn die van de foto’s.
