Een slanke kwartspunt rijst op van een lage witte rug, kleurloos waar hij de matrix verlaat en naar de top toe warm oplopend tot zacht lila, met een balk dieper violet die erin hangt als een schaduw gevangen in glas. Daaronder loopt een richel van vlakkere, matter kristallen naar links weg en versmalt tot een bleke drusige korst over roestbruin gesteente.
Kwarts is SiO2, trigonaal, hardheid 7 volgens Mohs – hard genoeg om zonder vrees vast te pakken, wat van weinig op een verzamelaarsplank gezegd kan worden. De tint zit richting de punt, de gebruikelijke signatuur van kleur die pas laat in de groei van het kristal inzette. Zoals bij alle violette kwarts doet jarenlang fel zonlicht de kleur verbleken, dus zet het ver buiten direct daglicht neer. Naica in Chihuahua is vooral bekend om gips op monumentale schaal; stukken als dit komen uit de veel bescheidener holtes daar.
