Over dit exemplaar
Eén bleek zeegroen kristal, blokvormig en bijna kubisch van omtrek, zit op een korst van minuscule witte druse die op zijn beurt een knoop staalgrijze metaalglanzende kristallen bedekt. Het groen is zacht en gelijkmatig en wordt iets dieper naar het beschaduwde linkervlak toe; de vlakken zelf zijn plat en glasachtig in plaats van berijpt, met fijne getrapte groeilijnen daar waar twee ervan samenkomen.
Kwarts hoort tot het trigonale stelsel en zou er dus helemaal niet kubisch uit horen te zien. De pseudokubische habitus ontstaat wanneer romboëdervlakken zich in vrijwel gelijk tempo ontwikkelen en het prisma onderdrukt blijft, zodat een kristal overblijft dat een symmetrie nabootst die het niet bezit. Yaogangxian, in Chenzhou, is een wolfraammijn, en het kwarts daar groeit gewoonlijk in dezelfde holten als de sulfiden die hier de basis donker kleuren. Met 7 op de schaal van Mohs is het kristal zelf duurzaam; de druse eronder is het kwetsbare deel.
3,8 × 3,3 × 3,0 cm, 31 g, met kit op een heldere acrylkubus gezet. Gefotografeerd precies zoals het zal aankomen.
