Een drift van lavendelkleurige bolletjes verdringt zich in de bovenste helft van dit specimen uit Mamuju; weinig ervan zijn groter dan een peperkorrel en elk is glanzend genoeg om een klein lichtpuntje te dragen. Lager vlakt de groei af tot een gladde mauve richel, dieper van toon dan de bolletjes erboven, en rechtsonder breekt een grijszwarte plek van het moedergesteente door waar de bekleding ophield.
Er is hier niets gezaagd, gepolijst of bijgewerkt. Druifagaat is botryoïdale chalcedoon – silica, SiO2, bol voor bol afgezet uit oplossing in holtes in vulkanisch gesteente, waarbij elke bol naar buiten toe in concentrische schillen aandikt tot de buren tegen elkaar aan dringen en afplatten. De lila toon verschuift met het licht: koel en bijna wit op de opstaande bollen, warmer en violetter in de beschaduwde holtes. Met 6,5 tot 7 op de schaal van Mohs en zonder splijting heeft het niet meer nodig dan een zachte kwast en een plek uit de volle zon.
Het meet 5,3 × 4,3 × 4,3 cm en weegt 71 g. Er hoort geen standaard bij; de foto's zijn in de hand gemaakt, en elke bol erop hoort bij dit specimen.
