Over dit exemplaar
Van dichtbij vullen de kubussen het beeld in indigo — een blauwzwemend violet dat in de diepste kristallen bijna zwart wordt en oplicht tot maagdenpalmblauw waar een vlak zich naar het licht keert. Ze zijn gestapeld, niet verstrooid: kubusrib evenwijdig aan kubusrib, elk kristal gegroeid op de flank van het vorige in ondiepe trappen, met fijne richels die de grotere vlakken terrasseren. Een waas van bleke interne textuur drijft door de kleur, en in de spleten liggen oranje korrels.
Parallelle groei als deze ontstaat wanneer een fluorietkristal zijn oriëntatie vasthoudt terwijl het aan hoeken en ribben nieuwe kubussen aanzet, zodat het stuk vanuit de ene hoek op een stapel huizenblokken lijkt en vanuit de andere op één kristal. Het is doorschijnend en niet helder: licht dringt binnen, verstrooit en komt gekleurd terug, en juist daarom lijken de donkerste zones bodemloos. De octaëdrische splijting is volmaakt bij Mohs 4, dus til het op bij de massa en nooit aan een uitstekende kubus.
De groep meet 5,6 × 2,9 × 4,5 cm en weegt 115 g. De foto's tonen deze groep en niets anders, in de hand opgenomen zodat de kleur binnenin waarheidsgetrouw overkomt.
