两种铜碳酸盐、两种性情，同处一块直立的矿石之上：天鹅绒般的绿色孔雀石结成圆润的葡萄状软垫，群青色的蓝铜矿结壳则自右侧堆叠而上，聚成紧密的糖粒状蔷薇，饱和得仿佛自背后被点亮。 绿色向顶端攀成一座小尖塔；蓝色如潮痕般随行，并在下方的岩阶上再度积聚，那里仍露出几处较深的灰褐色母岩。
蓝铜矿 Cu3(CO32(OH)2 与孔雀石 Cu2CO3(OH)2 之间的差别，不过是一个碳酸根与一个水分子；在潮湿空气中，蓝铜矿会缓慢让位给孔雀石。 像这样的标本正是被定格在转变途中，双色效果由此而来。 两者都软，莫氏硬度约 3.5 至 4，也都不耐酸与湿洗——只可干拭除尘。
