冰川般的淡色，只在较深的阴影里透出一丝紫意，这件上堡晶簇由平行排列的立方体构成：每道棱边都呈细致的阶梯状，因此每当一颗晶体遇上另一颗，轮廓便碎成一级级细小的阶梯。 光线在晶体内部行进相当长一段距离才转暗，凹陷处沉积着淡淡的褐色铁染，反而让蓝色显得更冷。
湖南上堡矿，是收藏者多年来追逐的蓝色与蓝绿色萤石产地，产出多为立方体或立方八面体，棱边正是这种阶梯状、带蚀痕的样貌。 像这样色浅的标本，在强烈的指向性灯光下最为出色，灯光会把颜色从晶体内部逼出来。 萤石摩氏硬度 4，沿八面体解理，且不喜温度骤变，因此请远离暖气，也不要放进超音波清洗机。
