三小块透视石晶壳，各自长在自己那一小片褐黄色的铁染岩石上，每一块都是蓝绿色菱面体肩并肩挤成的一丛。 晶面通透如玻璃，足以打出强烈的白色高光，而那种冷冽饱和的绿，只有铜才做得出来——与孔雀石、蓝铜矿背后是同一种元素，只是被推向更接近宝石的地步。 三者之中最大的一块，有一道未曾间断的晶体带横跨整整一厘米的母岩。
透视石是一种含水的铜矽酸盐，化学式为 CuSiO3·H2O，属三方晶系，这里短粗、带完整端面的柱状晶体正是它的典型晶习——它与立方形态毫无关系。 莫氏硬度 5 听来还算耐受，但这种矿物解理良好且性脆，因此软毛刷是它唯一该接受的清洁方式——不可超音波，不可用酸。
