看进构成这件瑶岗仙迷你标本的两枚淡丁香紫立方体，会发现里面悬着方正的深色核心——那是幻影，晶体早年阶段的轮廓，以浓郁的紫色保存下来，而后被较晚、较浅的生长层掩埋。 外侧的晶面呈阶梯状而非平坦，每一道台阶都沿边缘接住光线，而这一对晶体的半透明程度，读起来就像磨砂玻璃。
萤石（CaF2）长成立方体，也很容易停止生长；当供养它的溶液改变、之后又回来时，旧有的表面便被封存其中，而此处可见的颜色分带正是那段记录。 莫氏硬度 4、完全的八面体解理，意味着角隅是最脆弱的部分，所以请托住主体而非边角把它拿起。 湖南的瑶岗仙以绿色萤石更为人知——带紫色核心的淡紫晶体，是同一批产出中较安静的一支。
