一片直立的标本板承载着数十枚小立方体，颜色自清水般透明一路走到淡香槟色，其中少数几枚藏着淡淡的烟灰色核心。 它们面对面堆叠、大致彼此平行，所以标本正面会同时把光线切成许许多多的小方格，而不是从一个大晶面上闪出光来。 它们身后的母岩色浅而松脆，右缘有一道锈色条纹。
这种立方体叠立方体的堆叠方式，记录了一段走走停停的生长史：每一次停顿留下一个晶面，每一次重启便在前一枚之上成核出新的立方体，而某些晶体内部可见的淡色幻影，正标示着这些界线。 萤石硬度莫氏 4，沿八面体面干净解理——对宝石切磨师是恩赐，对藏家却是麻烦，因为短短一次跌落就足以失去一个角。
