About this specimen

Zhejiang purple-core stepped fluorite with quartz at 11.8 cm and 273 g; a cabinet plate with a two-tone effect.

Fluorite crystallises in the cubic system and is prized for its saturated colour, glassy lustre and the way zoned phantoms appear when the crystals are back-lit.

Quartz is the most collected mineral on earth for good reason: sharp hexagonal prisms, bright terminations and endless variation between localities.

Zhejiang's Jiangshan and Qingtian districts are known for babingtonite, prehnite, fluorite and quartz from volcanic-hosted veins.

By size it is cabinet, 11.8 × 7 × 3.2 cm (4.65 × 2.76 × 1.26 in) and 273 g (9.6 oz). Otherwise the piece is sold exactly as photographed.

Specimens are photographed and catalogued one at a time before they reach this page.
