一列淡丁香紫的萤石立方体沿着这块板状标本的上缘与右缘延伸，每颗晶体都在近乎无色的外层玻璃中悬着一枚更深的紫色晶核。 幻影呈方形且轮廓分明，记录下晶体早期较小时的模样。 其下的母岩铺满褐黄色的白云母薄片——数以千计的小云母书，回馈出黯淡的香槟色微光。
幻影生成于生长暂停之际。 一层杂质薄膜沉降在晶面上，或是流体的化学性质改变，待萤石重新生长时便直接覆盖其上，将旧有的轮廓封存在内。 湖南大量供应这种淡薰衣草紫配云母的组合，但幻影分带能像本件这般清晰可读者并不多见。 萤石的莫氏硬度为 4，并具四组完全解理。
这块板状标本尺寸为 8.6 × 2.0 × 5.6 cm，重 210 g，厚度够薄，可倚靠层架背板或平放于抽屉之中，不附底座。 您所看到的照片正是这块标本本身。
