琥珀金色的白钨矿晶体沿着这件雪宝顶标本的长向层层堆叠，左侧三枚斜倚成柱，右侧再挤进第四枚，每一枚都带着本产地闻名的钝角假八面体轮廓，光线穿透时晶面泛出蜜糖般的光。 穿插其间与其上的是色调更淡的橄榄金色白云母花结，裂开成云母惯有的纸质卷曲书页状，中央附近还有几片更亮的碎片映着光。
白钨矿是钨酸钙，CaWO4，也是钨的主要矿石之一。 以它的重量而言算软，莫氏硬度 4.5 至 5，拿在手上明显沉手；在短波紫外线下它会回以蓝白色的萤光——这是本矿种的经典野外鉴定法。 位于四川平武县的雪宝顶，正是让中国以外的收藏者熟悉这种晶体形态的产地。
正面约 2.8 × 2.5 cm，重 50 g，完全依图示以黏土胶直立固定。 图片记录的就是这一组晶体。
