About this specimen
Xuebaoding, Sichuan, scheelite with fluorite and mica at 12 cm and 587 g; a large cabinet piece from a classic locality.
Scheelite forms pseudo-octahedral bipyramids in Chinese tungsten deposits and fluoresces blue-white under short-wave UV.
Chinese fluorite has become a staple of modern collections for its sharp crystal faces, strong colour and a lustre that reads well from across the room. Mica forms pearly hexagonal books that catch the light between the other crystals.
Sichuan's alpine-type veins and skarns yield aquamarine, prehnite, epidote and scheelite of international quality.
