越过表面往里看，晶体就打开了。 这件瑶岗仙集合的外部呈霜面，并扑着一层橄榄绿——细致的云母质薄衣附在立方体晶面上；底下则有深紫色的核心悬在近乎无色的萤石之中，方形的轮廓与外缘平行——那就是幻影，是晶体早年所保有的形状。 最大的立方体上横过阶梯状的生长阶，左下方一处凹穴里则有乳白色的刃状晶片与几根细针。
幻影的形成，是生长停顿得够久，让另一种矿物的薄膜、或是微量化学的变化被封存下来，再被后来的萤石埋住。 它们完全不是事后添加的，而是一次中断的纪录。 萤石莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面体解理，因此这是一件陈列用而非把玩用的标本——请从下方托住。
