A historic Bolivian silver–tin district
The Oruro district, in Bolivia's Eastern Cordillera, has been a major silver and tin producer, worked through complex veins in quartz-latite porphyry. The San José and Itos mines are its best-known workings.
What collectors look for
Oruro is celebrated for franckeite (the Itos mine yields the world's best), along with cassiterite, silver sulfosalts, and other tin–silver vein minerals.
