Tincalayu, on the Puna plateau of Salta Province, is one of Argentina's principal borate deposits. The name derives from tincal, the old term for natural borax, and the deposit is worked for borax and associated borate minerals.
What collectors look for
Borate species — borax, ulexite ("TV rock"), and related minerals — are the collector interest, alongside the deposit's importance as a source of industrial boron.
