一枚菊石，如書本般被翻開：這對來自馬達加斯加馬哈贊加、經切割與拋光的相配半片，把一枚白堊紀的殼體變成一對鏡像的陳列品。這隻動物築起的每一個殼室，如今都是自成一格的微型晶洞——有的鑲著蜜金色的方解石晶體，有的底部積著鏽紅色的沉積物——外覆瑪瑙化的殼壁，拋光後呈焦糖與奶白色。
螺旋的內圈在每一半的中心處依然清晰，因此這一對既可讀作自然史——一億年前軟體動物建築的橫切面——也是一組現成、相配的層架或桌面陳列品。
整組合計尺寸約 11.9 × 3.6 × 13.7 cm，重 471 g。兩半一同出貨；照片所示即為此對實物。
