一片寬闊的三角形晶面佔滿這件貴州螢石的正面，而它是單顆八面體，不是一群立方體。邊緣霜白，看上去帶著細砂糖般的質感；其內一個暗藕紫色的三角形端坐在晶面中央，各邊與外緣平行，使晶體看來像是懷抱著一個較小的自己。一道淺色的霜面晶台向右側延伸出去。
螢石選擇哪一種晶面，主要取決於它生長的快慢：生長迅速時立方體晶面佔優，緩慢而穩定時則由八面體晶面主導，而這裡的三角形輪廓正是「慢」的答案。顏色遵循同一套時序，隨流體改變而變深或轉淡，紫色的晶心因此被裹進一層無色的外殼裡。螢石莫氏硬度 4，具完美的八面體解理——那些俐落的稜邊一經碰撞便會受損。
