白色方解石晶刃像倒伏的木材般橫臥於這件瑤崗仙標本的頂部，扁平的板條狀晶體以各種角度層層交疊，其中幾片被鐵染成褐色。晶刃之下的螢石是柔和的灰丁香紫，覆著一層磨砂的霧面外皮——這裡沒有玻璃光的立方晶面，只有把光散開的粒狀表面，使色澤帶著白堊般、近乎粉質的質感。
方解石覆於螢石之上是瑤崗仙常見的組合，而先後次序在標本上清晰可讀：螢石先形成，方解石隨後沉落其上。方解石（CaCO3）三個方向解理、莫氏硬度僅 3，這使那些板條成為全件最脆弱之處——螢石毫不在意的一次碰撞，就能把它們乾脆折斷。也請讓它遠離任何酸性物質，包括家用清潔劑。
