望進這顆螢石的正面，會有一個幽靈回望：一枚淡色、霧面的幻影懸在深紫之中，邊緣柔和，那是更早的晶體表面被後來的生長封住的痕跡。主晶是一顆以晶角朝上擺放的單一立方體，外部玻璃質，幻影的正中心則呈混濁的灰色。較小的淡紫色螢石晶體攀附在上方的晶角上，一條邊緣還有帶綠色調的雲母片與針頭大小的黃鐵礦。
幻影形成於生長暫停之時。一層薄薄的雜質沉降在晶體表面，之後的螢石繞著它繼續生長，舊的晶面便被封存在內部，成為看得見的界線。湖南瑤崗仙正是這樣一個產地：紫色螢石經常在藏家尺寸上把這份紀錄保留得清晰可讀。螢石成分為 CaF2，摩氏硬度 4，具完全的八面體解理——用力壓在一個晶角上，它就會沿著你看不見的一個面裂開。
立方體尺寸 4.3 × 3.3 × 3.0 cm，重 51 g。不附底座，圖中以手持方式呈現比例；拍攝的標本即為出貨的那一件。
