顏色在這件標本的稜角處匯聚：每一枚立方體的晶面中央都是淡丁香紫，到了邊緣與角隅則加深為葡萄紫，因此整組看起來像一套層層相疊的紫色框。這些立方體互相交生成一團拇指大小的整體，晶面呈緞面而非鏡面般明亮，底部仍附著一小塊淺色母岩。
這種聚集在稜角上的顏色是生長環帶。螢石的紫色來自晶格中的色心，而色心的密度隨晶體生長而改變，把這段記錄留在了外部可讀之處。螢石（CaF2）莫氏硬度 4，沿四個八面體方向完全解理，因此碰撞會從角上乾淨地劈下一塊楔形，而不是擦出磨痕。它所需的清潔，永遠只是一支軟毛刷。
