兩枚碩大的綠色圓丘自這塊湖南晶板的右側鼓起，表面由數千枚細小的階梯狀螢石晶體密集堆疊而成，密到隔著整個房間望去，每一丘都只是一塊海綠色的軟墊。晶板左側則完全換了性格：乳白色的刃狀晶片如扇般交疊展開，覆著糖霜般的晶簇薄殼，其中一片還護著一枚深色的刃狀晶體。
這類生長靠的是在彎曲表面上反覆成核，每一代微小的立方體與八面體都在前一代之上扎根——正因如此，才會形成階梯狀、花椰菜般的質地，而不是一顆光滑的球。這裡沒有任何一處經過修形、打磨或拋光。螢石莫氏硬度 4，而在一個由數千層階台構成的表面上，粗率的清潔會造成實質損傷：請把灰塵吹掉，不要擦拭。
這是一塊份量十足的晶板——15.2 × 10.2 × 10.2 cm、1120 g——底部以乳白色母岩端正落座，綠色一面朝前，因此無需底座。鏡頭對準的就是這塊晶板，而離開層架的也正是它。
