關於此標本
這件內蒙古標本上的立方體，紫色濃郁得早已越過絲絨的層次，看去近乎黑色；一旦光線從背後透入，稜邊便亮起紫羅蘭色，內部也一階接一階交出方正的幻影生長輪廓。晶體四周與下方堆著一層淡橄欖黃色的球狀結殼，表面啞光、呈葡萄狀，把深色的螢石襯得更加突出。
幻影的形成，是生長暫停得夠久，讓另一種礦物的薄膜、或僅僅是流體性質的改變沉積在晶面上，之後生長才重新開始；較早、較小的立方體輪廓，就這樣被封存在較大的晶體之內。這種近乎黑色的濃度來自 CaF2 晶格中的色心。螢石莫氏硬度 4，具完全的八面體解理，請托住母岩取拿，不要捏住稜角。
尺寸 6.1 × 5.0 × 4.4 cm，重 135 g。拍攝時就固定在隨附的透明壓克力座上，寄出的正是這一件。
